Analysing blog commenting..

June 20, 2011

In all the hype of dofollow and nofollow blog commenting and specially in the light of question of use it or not I’m trying to dig deeper into the whole questionable blog commenting thing as a marketing tactic. First thing first, there must be some balance between the morality and useful meaningful information you put in there. So, the more you info you invest into your comment the less it is comment spam. That should be it for the most people I guess.

If that’s not the case, comments would be disabled isn’t it? Continuing that thought, there comes conclusion that majority of blog owners who also wish their commenters to be on their site are leaving comments enabled except for the few who have no idea how to do that or just do not want to be bothered.. So, for a comment to be true it simply must be true! Then there is no reason for anger or anything I guess. Let’s go one step further into this analysis shall we and this step is one which is deeper in to the darker waters of commenting and it is another conclusion: if posting valuable comment is acceptable commenting is it still acceptable if we automate some parts of the process? I’m not aware of a good tool as of now.. good tool and as “green” as possible, a tool that would find me good places? I think that in order to add legitimity to comments, we need to keep tracks of our comments and specially, follow up comments that may show. Think about it as a first aid to the wound or something that will keep your presence there a better thing than it would be without it.. I’m not aware of a tool that would help me do that as of now.. but will research into it. That’s second tool I may need, a tool that would keep me connected to the follow up comments? There may be another which would add to the effectiveness and that would be one which may tell me traffic of the place in question but the number of commenters and their frequency would tell something also, so fifty-fifty there.. ADDITION (or next): With all the above sincerely geared to green industry and white techniques, there still may be some problems which is good to avoid in advance.. Paranoia may be, but it may be good to find some free hosts to place sites that are commented.. In short:
Effective, WHITEHAT COMMENTING needs:
—–> FEW GOOD FREE HOSTS
—–> BLOG FINDER TOOL with help of some traffic details
—–> FOLLOW UP COMMENTS NOTIFICATION TOOL of sorts.
In addition, BH commenting would’ve required some automatic finder/submission tool.

Now, this post is just analysis and contemplating the blog commenting and not endorsement of such actions.

Free ecards

August 16, 2007

Postcards, as we know them were invented back in 19th century. People wanted a quick way to send a message instead of using a letter and envelope. At first, there were various drawings printed on them, and then later came photographs. And so, now we have electronic cards which is a quick way of sending messages to someone and for the things to be even better, a lot of places offer them for free. It’s simple, you search through the available ecards/images, choose one and then personalize it through adding sound, custom message, or you can change layout or some colors etc. All you need to know is the email address of the person receiving an ecard. Well if you’re looking for free ecards then the most popular address would be 123greetings.
Free Birthday Greeting Cards
Huge resource of all kinds of free ecards. Whether you’re looking for an ecard themes like Birthday, Love, Friendship, Anniversary, Invitation, Wedding or anything else, the chances are you will find something you’d like there. Another place to visit may be DaySpring Christian ecards.
Free Inspirational E-cards
A lot of categories to choose from like Birthday, Friendship, Love, Miss You, Get Well and many others. Sending an ecard is quite simple, choose an ecard, enter message details and it’s done.
free ecards
Care2 is something more than free ecard site. It’s "for the people who want to make a difference" regarding health, human rights and protecting the environment. And also an excellent resource of free ecards, actually over 25000 of them!
You can also take a look at
Free eCards & Free eGreetings

Convey your wishes with a message from your heart by sending these lovely ecards and greetings" as from their site. Over 20000 ecards to choose from, so it’s really a huge resource!
But no free ecards post should ever be made without wickedmoon!
Free e-cards
Not a simple ecard site but clearly an awesome artistic ecard site! Not a usual set of categories, which makes it even better because here you can have an ecard with a gothic touch like faeries, vampires, dragons, creatures, angels, unicorns but also birthday, get well, friendship so really an excellent site, one of my favorites. Yup, some great places to visit!

Free screensavers

July 25, 2007

Screensavers are still quite popular and so are free screensavers which can be found at numerous sites and some pretty amazing ones that is. Freewarefiles.com is a great source of free software and among these are screensavers. This site offers detailed description, ratings, screenshot and number of downloads for each free screensaver which may give you enough info whether to download it or not. Astronomy, animals, fun&games, patterns and many more. The ones I liked are: 3D Arctic Bear and Don´t Touch My Computer. Also, if you’re looking for antivirus programs, free games, or whatever else there may be, you can find it here, they even have download tools to create your own screensavers. If you’re looking for screensavers, you may wish to read "Screensavers = Danger!" from news.antispyware.com . Looking for screensavers might not be harmless? Great site to mention is also Really Slick Screensavers whose owner is writing 3D OpenGL screensavers as a hobby. Found about it at guykawasaki’s blog. 4th of of July is behind us but this screensaver and other at the site are really great.

Free templates anyone?

May 31, 2007

If you’re making a site from scratch you may need some templates. Well, free templates can be quite usable and sometimes just as good as needed. Of course depending on your needs you may need to use paid professional ones but take a look at the free ones first. One of the best places to visit is OSWD. Currently it has over 2000 web designs so be sure to check it. If any requirements exist, each template will have them clearly stated. It’s a link to a designer’s site or some other URL which sits mostly at the bottom of a page. Take a look at Usage Agreement. At openoffice.blogs.com I also found about opensourcetemplates.org which is another really nice free template resource you should check. Scottwater.com has a list of sites with a lot of free template designs. Take a look at templateworld, it’s one of those "oooh" templates. And free! All of them are great, professionaly looking but if I have to choose some examples it would be trial impact, inter craft or trial services. All of them are work of art. I just mentioned three but there’s more. Also CodeSucks doesn’t suck at all, infact it has some of the most beautiful free templates on the net. Check it. Clazh.com has a list of the Top Ten Best Free Wordpress Themes and Templates if you’re looking for a refreshment for your wordpress blog. But the best comes at the end. Smashingmagazine posted really huge free web templates and blog templates list. And now there is enough of them to search for hours. Enjoy!

May 5, 2007

Fetchfido have a lot of online games. Fetchfido is also easier for dialup connection users because all games have their size in kilobytes so you can roughly estimate the time needed to start up. Of course users with faster connection speeds will have their games start pretty fast. Some of these cool Flash, Java and Shockwave games are Hangaroo, Bomb It, Save The Sheriff, Rally Trophy and others.
Also, another pretty good free online game site is Pogo. All of these games are made by EA. There are two variants of Pogo: the free version and a Club Pogo version. When you become a member of Club Pogo you may get a badge. Registration is very simple and fast.
One of the most popular free online game site is Miniclip. Huge amount of games is one of the Miniclip’s characteristics. Another great thing is their help service. Free wallpapers

April 26, 2007

After some time you may wish to change your default windows wallpaper. There are a lot of alternatives to be found on the internet for free. A lot of them are 1024 x 768 but it’s not a problem if you have larger desktop size cause most of the time it can be stretched slightly without a visible loss in quality. Check for example Free 4U Wallpapers, they have collection of the most beautiful wallpapers I have found. All of the pictures are just perfect, you can use any one of them as a new wallpaper cause I found none I don’t like. Many categories available. When looking for a free wallpapers, it’s also possible to use free photos for example. Although I prefer changing wallpapers manually, you can use software to change or rotate wallpapers in some predefined interval. At ghacks.net I’ve found a post about Free Wallpaper Changer, so you can use it if you like it, it’s freeware and available at topdownloads.net . Interfacelift is another interesting place to visit. Found about it at Chrome’s Blog. Pictures shown are sorted by popularity. Talking about wallpapers without mentioning backgroundsarchive.com would be just incomplete. A lot of pictures, drawings and tiles which can be used to enliven your desktop space. There’s much more to it like Caedes, which is an excellent source of wallpapers. Deviantart is also huge resource of beautiful drawings, some of them even public domain. At istartedsomething.com I found about Hamad Darwish. If you’re looking for some awesome, colorful, in one word perfect pictures go see these. If all of these are not enough, there’s a list of sites having 1920 x 1200 Wallpapers, and a really huge list of sites with "Selected Wallpapers: For Desktop & Web-Design". Have fun!

Everybody loves free games, how about making them?

April 21, 2007

Seeing and playing all those wonderfully crafted games, it’s great to know that there are some free game engines also. Just like cars, games have their engine. You can build characters and environment in a game and engine will take care of the rest, roughly speaking. With that in mind, I think about Cube. If you ever wanted to make your own game this open source engine comes with level editor and "realtime, on the fly, in-game map editing" so creating your first game or, learning to create a game, couldn’t be easier than with this tool. So, old school Quake style games can be made with it. To be able to edit levels you can use "older" PC, somewhere around 1 Ghz and 512 Mb memory and for playing half of that. It’s around 30 Mb download and is available for Linux, Windows and Macs and comes with some 100 playable maps. Although this engine is from 2005, it still guarantees a lot of fun. There is also newer, Cube 2 engine called Sauerbraten, improved in many ways but it’s hardware requirements are slightly higher. There’s a post at e-topic called "Sauerbraten First Person Shooter or German Culinary Delight?" having just excellent review of Sauerbraten. Read it, it covers everything, from installation to license stuff, engine, level designer, and the rest. "How about Top 10 OSS Games You’ve Never Played" is an interesting article with a short review of the best open source games and a list of mixed open source / freeware games. You may find some really great games there, go through the comments section also.

The best free drawing and photo editing tools

April 10, 2007

Although most people use Photoshop to draw or edit images there are many good free and also quite useful tools you can use. Some of them are small, fast and feature packed utilities which will do the job just fine.
For business use Photoshop may be the best, for personal or nonprofessional use there are quite a few very capable programs which may help you edit photos or draw something. Of course, main point here is that programs listed here are free and there I will mention only few which I like the most.
If you need some free paint tools you will found immediately that Gimp jumps out as one of the most recommended free graphic tools. It’s not much to say that this tool comes really close to be a Photoshop alternative. Strong and capable, packed with features and expandable with many plugins available, it really can do some complex jobs for you. No doubt Gimp is the best free photo editing and drawing tool today.
Sharon Sarmiento wrote an interesting post about GIMP called "The Gimp–Free design software". The truth is not "many" people know about GIMP. It is a great tool, quite close to Photoshop with it’s features, but simply Photoshop is the tool everybody use. Well anybody used to Photoshop look and feel can also visit Scott Moschella’s Plastic bugs to learn about GIMPshop, which is a modification of GIMP and whose primary purpose is to make users of Photoshop feel comfortable using GIMP. If you’re looking for other open source alternatives, read Your Guide to Free Open-Source Software and visit OSalt.com to find high quality open source alternatives to commercial software. But there’s more than just Gimp, Vicman Pro is now free. At the Vicman site you can also find many other interesting free graphic tools like Mobile Photo Enhancer, JPEG Enhancer or Cartoonist. Maybe not known as much as Photoshop or Gimp, this tool has some features which could make it interesting for a home user. Small and fast, packed with interesting features it could be the perfect choice for some occasional photo editing. This tool, when I found it, was really an interesting discovery, especially because it was not free before. With a nice set of features and plugins it can be used for a lot of experimenting in editing and drawing.
Pixia is also a nice graphic tool and a quite fast one. It supports layers and transparency. There is an add-on available which enables Pixia to accept Photoshop plugins which is a nice extra feature.Originally developed in Japan by Isao Maruoka and now there are versions in English, German, French, Spanish, etc. As in their About page "It may be used in any forms, except for sale purpose".
Artweaver can be used for both private and commercial purpose as stated in their FAQ, so no limitations there. Compared with many other free programs, Artweaver is adjustable and easy for novice user. For example, you can adjust size, angle, opacity of the brushes and also new brushes can be added. Supports transparency and layers, has tablet support and a collection of filters. There are many more but these are few of the best ones.
Stefan Mischook has a list of Top 7 alternative Image Editors and Converters, and mentions few good and free programs not mentioned here, so take a look.
